Your easy guide to checking golf clubs in at the airport

In this section:

Checking your clubs in at the airport

Whether you've been visiting the birthplace of golf and experiencing some of Scotland's best courses, or you're jetting off for some rounds in the sun, the process of checking your clubs in is an easy and straight-forward one.

Firstly, it's important to note that the check-in process is managed by your airline and their contracted handling agent (not the airport) so you're always best to check with them for rules around what you can and can't take - and what allowance you have.

As always you should try and check-in for your flight online if you can, this will speed things up when you get to the airport.

When it comes to arriving and checking your clubs in, like with other large items like bikes and skis, there are some differences you need to be aware of. It's not simply a case of checking these in the normal way.

Follow these simple steps and you'll be kept right.

  1. Check the flight information screens to see which desk your airline is checking in at.

  2. Once tags are added to your bags drop your luggage - not your golf bags - on the baggage belt at the back of the hall.

  3. Then take your golf bag to the 'oversized' area at the baggage belt between check-in zones C and D.

This map shows where zones C and D are located in the check-in hall.

This is also signposted in the terminal, with flight information display screens showing which desk your flight is checking in at.

Wondering when to arrive? Best get at the airport for your airline's check-in desk opening, and this varies from airline to airline.
