£5.8 million project to improve our check-in hall gets underway

We're improving our check-in hall.

A project to redesign the airport's check-in hall and create more space for passengers is now underway.

The £5.8 million investment will see zones A and D improved in time for spring 2025, with works being carried out throughout the winter months.

New self-service technology and digital wayfinding will be introduced, along with a redesign to create an improved, more seamless experience for passengers when checking in.

So where are zones A and D? Zone A is the space currently used by Ryanair and this area will see 70% more space created, while zone D, the area used by Jet2.com and other carriers, will also see an open collector (a belt passengers can put their bags on once checked in) and new digital wayfinding brought in.

The layout of check-in desks in both areas will be reconfigured to improve the flow of passengers and both areas will get a fresh new look and feel, with the ceiling opened up wider to create a more open environment.

'Raising the standards for our passengers'

Edinburgh Airport is now part of the VINCI Airports network of more than 70 airports across the world, and it will draw on this experience and expertise to ensure the best solution for passengers.

While works are ongoing temporary wayfinding will be in place, and disruption will be kept to a minimum.

Adam Wilson, Chief Operating Officer at Edinburgh Airport said:

“Raising the standards for our passengers is something we’re always striving to do, and this significant investment in our check-in hall will deliver a major improvement.

“As an airport it’s important that we listen to our passengers and deliver the changes they want to see – and creating more space in check-in is something that we have seen come up when asking for feedback.

“There will be some temporary changes throughout the hall while work is being carried out so we’d like to thank passengers in advance for their patience as we deliver these important improvements.”
