Meet Lottie who's been helping shine a light on airport careers during Tomorrow's Engineers Week

In this section:

What better time to shine a light on the range of careers at Edinburgh Airport than during Tomorrow's Engineers Week, and we've had a big helping hand in doing this.

Step forward, Lottie...

At the airport we've been taking part in the WES Lottie Tour - an annual campaign organised by the Women's Engineering Society which takes 'Lottie' on the road to showcase some of the fantastic career paths out there in the hope of inspiring the next generation.

Colleagues working in noise management, airside compliance and sustainability all spent time with Lottie in recent weeks, and here's how they got on.

Noise management

Lottie joined June McClung, Edinburgh Airport's Environmental Noise Manager, to carry out maintenance on some of the airport's noise monitors and measure aircraft noise.

Lottie - aircraft noise

As the noise manager June looks after the airport's Noise and Track system, the noise monitors and insulation scheme, while also dealing with any noise complaints received.

Lottie also joined June during a trip to the IOA noise conference in Winchester to meet colleagues from different airports and discuss all things noise.

Airside Compliance

Lottie pulled on her high-vis and ear protectors and ventured out on to the airfield with the airport's Airside Compliance team - getting up close to some aircraft.

Claire Brown, Aerodrome Safeguarding and Compliance Officer, was happy to show Lottie the ropes and explain everything which goes into ensuring the airfield is safe and compliant for all who use it. Along with joining an aircraft 'push-back', Lottie also joined Claire on a compliance check where all lighting and signage is looked at.

The Airside Compliance team is responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulatory and organisational requirements, and to ensure our airside operation and airside business partners are operating in accordance to the aerodrome certification requirements.

Sustainability

Time to hit the road! The airport's Sustainability team took Lottie along with them when they went to visit colleagues from another UK airport and discuss common ideas.

Lottie on board - for sustainability

This team is leading the delivery of Edinburgh Airport's Greater Good strategy and setting out the path to a sustainable future for the airport.

The strategy is split into four pillars - Trusted Neighbour, Zero Carbon, Scotland's Best Business, and Enhancing Scotland. Read more about it here.

Tomorrow's Engineers Week ran from November 6 to 10. Find out more about it here and learn all about the WES Lottie Tour on this webpage.
