We said the airport's partnership with The Larder would provide a "feast of opportunities" when it was extended for a second year in 2023, and that's exactly how things turned out.
Our official collaboration with the charity concluded at the end of last year, with almost £170,000 worth of support provided throughout 2022 and 2023.
Teams across the airport have seen up close the amazing work The Larder does to empower and improve the lives of disadvantaged young people and adults in West Lothian, with a focus on access to learning and good food.
The partnership allowed the airport to support The Larder do this life-changing work, and staff got involved in a variety of different ways including:
Fundraising through the Edinburgh Kiltwalk, charity cycle challenges, a month-long walking competition, and a four-mile perimeter run around the airport's airfield.
Organising raffles, Easter egg collections, and a hugely successful pyjama appeal.
Collaborating to deliver STEM workshops and interactive mock interview and careers days.
Offering services through volunteering and the sharing of ideas and knowledge.
Gordon Robertson, Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer at Edinburgh Airport said:
"We're incredibly proud of our collaboration with The Larder and on behalf of the airport I'd like to thank them for being such a fantastic charity partner.
"Teams across the airport embraced the opportunity to support the amazing work it does - whether it be by delivering workshops, taking part in fundraisers, or sharing knowledge - and all of this helped contribute to a hugely successful collaboration.
"While the official partnership has come to an end, the links we've formed with the charity will continue long into the future and we'll always be supporters of The Larder at Edinburgh Airport."
Angela Moohan, CEO at The Larder said:
"The Partnership with Edinburgh Airport over the past two years has enabled The Larder to strengthen our ability to respond to challenging circumstances with confidence.
"The staff that we worked with across a range of teams used their creativity and enthusiasm to ‘give back’ to benefit our financial position as well as contributing their time to build the confidence and knowledge of the young people we work with.
"We have built lasting relationships with both individuals and teams and look forward to continuing and developing our relationship."
At the end of 2023 the airport announced Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity (ECHC) would be the official charity partner for 2024 and 2025.
