Full of energy: Edinburgh Airport's plan to build solar farm on airfield

In this section:

Passengers lucky enough to have bagged a window seat will notice some big changes when taking off and arriving at Edinburgh Airport in the near future.

An eleven-acre solar farm is set to go live on our airfield in the coming weeks, providing 27 per cent of the energy needs at EDI – based on 2019 levels - once operational.

The project is being funded by the airport and the Scottish Government through their Low Carbon Infrastructure Transition Programme.

It will help us meet the commitment to self-generate 25 per cent of our energy needs by 2030 as set out in Greater Good, the airport’s sustainability strategy.

The 9.7MW solar farm, with 1.5MW battery storage, will also supply electric vehicle charging points for staff and passengers.
