We don't think it's much of a stretch to suggest Niagara Falls features on many a bucket list.
Visitors flock to the natural wonder in their thousands each day to see the falls in full flow, and experience one of the planet's most breath-taking sights up close and personal.
We appreciate it's not Toronto per se - it straddles the border between Ontario and New York state - however it is well within day-trip distance of the Canadian city and rightly considered one of the top things to do when visiting this part of the world.
For that reason we've taken a look at why you might want to fly Edinburgh to Toronto to see this natural phenomenon for yourself.

Yep, it really is. Niagara Falls is a group of three waterfalls spanning the border, the largest of which is the Horseshoe Falls at around 2,590ft wide. The sights, sounds, and general atmosphere is difficult to do justice with words. You really need to experience it for yourself.
We've seen the nearby town compared to a mini Las Vegas, and it does have some similarities. There are hotels, casinos, and even an amusement park for those who want to stay a bit longer. A great way to see the falls is from the top of the 175ft Niagara Skywheel.
Close enough to feel the cold mist on your face, to hear nothing but the relentless roaring of the falls. There are boat tours regularly running in the area, and there are fewer better ways to get a sense of how powerful this phenomenon really is.
Oh, and you'll be given a waterproof poncho for obvious reasons.

If a boat trip's not quite your thing why not take a journey 'behind the falls' on foot. To reach this incredible observation deck you'll need to venture 125ft down, and make your way through 130-year-old tunnels from which you can actually feel the vibrations.
The viewing portal is cut into the rock itself, meaning this really is an unforgettable way to see the Horseshoe Falls. However word of warning, you'll get soaked.

Yes, that's correct, there's more than just the falls in Niagara.
Niagara on the Lake is a town packed with 19th century charm - complete with its boutique shops, bright streets lined with flowers and planters, and horse-drawn-carriages taking people from a to b (yep, seriously). A few minutes in this place and you'll feel like you've been taken back to another era.
Further afield and you've got some of Canada's finest wineries, a host of renowned restaurants, and some spectacular scenery to feast your eyes upon.
There's a good chance you'll end up falling for Niagara.
