Improvements continue as £1million project to upgrade eGates begins

Improvements continue with eGate upgrades

We’ve been updating you on the various improvement works that are going on across the airport, especially the ones you’ll see, and another project will kick off next week.

You’ll be familiar with the eGates that are just at the entry to security – you know, the ones that you scan your boarding pass on? Well, they’re about to get replaced in time for peak summer!

It’s the latest project to make your journey through the airport as smooth as possible.

Security e-gates

The removal of the old and installation of the new eGates will take place from April 21 to the end of May, and we’re investing £1 million to introduce brand new state-of-the-art gates.

Once installed, the eGates will deliver:

  • Faster transaction times to allow passengers to move into the hall more quickly

  • Improved scanning technology

  • Biometric functionality to futureproof the gates

  • More gates, including at FastTrack and in the Family Lane

What will I see?

Obviously, it’s difficult to operate in a busy environment but we’ll be working outside of peak Easter weeks to minimise disruption as much as possible and ensure they are in for the busiest weeks and months of the year.

It might feel a bit busier than normal, especially if you’re travelling during our daily peaks (first thing and then mid-morning), but once in the hall you’ll move through security quickly.

Please bear with us while we make these improvements – we wish they could be done in one day but that’s just not possible!

What we can both do

We’ll have some of our staff there to help people when required, and you can help us by also being prepared for when you reach the eGates.

  • Have your boarding pass ready – paper copy or QR code

  • Scan the pass in a timely manner when you reach the gates

  • Be ready for security – liquids must be 100ml or under but can stay in your bag

  • Keep electricals in your bag

  • Remove any belts and place them in the tray

And finally, thanks for your patience and for working with us while we continue to make Improvements across the airport.
