Seven improvements introduced at airport's World Duty Free store

Last updated Jul 26, 2024

Improving World Duty Free

A series of improvements have been delivered at the airport's World Duty Free store this summer meaning a better experience and even more choice for passengers.

Duty Free is always a popular stop after security for those heading away on their travels and those returning home after a trip to Scotland. And while it can be a prime opportunity to shop your favourite brands for cheaper, it's also a chance to pick up some of Scotland's favourite exports - from gin and whisky to sweet treats.

Works have been ongoing with operator Avolta for a number of months to make the store even better by expanding its size, bringing in even more choice, and placing greater emphasis on top Scottish brands.

So here are seven changes you'll notice from summer 2024.

1. The retail space has been refurbished and increased in size by 30%.

2. A striking Edinburgh Gin boutique has been introduced with samples and supplies of the popular spirit.
3. A Walker's Shortbread vending machine allows people to pick up one of Scotland's favourite treats for their travels.
4. Additional beauty brands including Charlotte Tilbury and Kylie have landed in store.
5. We welcomed a Johnnie Walker 'store-in-store' including personalised luggage tags - as seen below ahead of World Whisky Day.
6. There's a bank of eight new water fountains at the exit.
7. And we've got improved flight information display screens at the entrance and exit to the shop.

'More options than ever before'

Gail Taylor, Chief Commercial Officer (Non Aero) at Edinburgh Airport, said:

โ€œWe want to provide passengers with the best experience possible, and these improvements to World Duty Free with Avolta raise the standards in our departure lounge even further.

โ€œMuch like with the variety of destinations available from the airport, we want to provide people with as much choice as we can when they are travelling through. The increased store size along with the introduction of some fantastic new brands means there are now more options than ever before.

โ€œThe focus on Scottish brands is something weโ€™re particularly passionate about as we want people to take some of our finest produce away with them. Whether itโ€™s something to remember their trip by, or a little something so they can enjoy a taste of home away from home.โ€

Making improvements at EDI

Throughout the busy summer months we're going to be sharing some of the big improvements you'll see when next travelling through the airport.

A host of projects are currently being worked on with the aim of raising standards for all passengers throughout the terminal - whether you're departing or arriving - and we're looking forward to telling you all about them.

What you say matters to us and that's why these improvements have been informed by feedback from passengers and our own teams across the airport.

Improvements include:

โœ… New food and beverage outlets.

โœ… More water fountains in the departure lounge.

โœ… More electric vehicles operating on our airfield.

โœ… More space in the check-in hall.
