The hilltop city of Poitiers is home to one of Europe's oldest churches - the fourth century Baptistry which was built during the Gallo-Roman period. The structure is now used as a museum hosting some of the earliest mural paintings in France. Visitors also flock to check out the city's array of striking Gothic cathedrals, along with the stunning Notre Dame le Grande which was built in 1086 and is regarded among the finest examples of Romanesque architecture.
